Things I Sometimes Say to Dax, When She is Sitting on My Lap

Dax is our Welsh Pembroke Corgi. Unlike most Welsh Pembroke Corgis, Dax still has her tail. Like most Welsh Pembroke Corgis (at least as far as I can tell), she is 1,000 pounds of attitude in a 30 pound package.
Dax likes to do many things, including sitting on my lap. When she is sitting on my lap, I usually talk to her (as one does.) I’ll often say things like: “Who’s my big girl? You are!” Or “Who needs some whump-a-rooskies!” Or “Thank you for the kiss!” Or “Who just head-butted me in the face? You did!”
And other times (less often), I’ll say other things like: “Yes, I have obtained more books and added them to the stack!” Or “No, you can’t have that Kleenex, Kleenexes aren’t good for dogs!” Or “Look! Your brother (not really her brother, just our other dog Sisko, who is an Australian Shepherd), is playing with a clonker-bone!” Or “If all you are going to do is snoot around and look for things to chew on, you need to get down.”
I actually don’t know if Dax likes it when I talk to her or not. Sometimes when I do (but not all the time), she’ll wag her tail and give me a look that I interpret as encouragement. Either way, she always comes back for another sit, and more pets and pats.
